In 1936, Armand's mother told him about the
famous musicians that his father, Elvin
Satori Singer, knew. Brahms, Liszt and
Wagner were some of the most famous.
During a visit In July 1953, she shared
even more:
Mother showed me an old brochure of
the Emma Juch Opera Company, including a
paragraph on my father. He had scratched out
last number of the August 24, 186- birth date
given, but it was still barely legible but
clearly a "2". Since he died on September 14,
1927, he was then just over 65 when he died,
not around 75 as our family Dr. DeWitt
guessed at autopsy.
Even if not a "2" but a "0", still only
67. I assume no reason for an incorrect date
since brochure came out in 1889 or so. Also
noticed my father was first to sing
selections from Madame Butterfly, which he
introduced (as selections, before whole opera
was given in U.S.) into U.S. from Italy.
Today, Opera
America lists Madame
Butterfly number 1 of the the 20 most
performed operas in North America.
