I got a couple of comments last week that have
prompted me to respond.
Luci Yamamoto is a writer for Lonely
Planet. Her parents live in Hilo and she dropped
in on one of my classes. We've kept in touch
sporadically and she wrote to ask, "Why are you
following the blog of Armand? Who is he?
Maybe I am missing something, but can you clarify for
me?"
Armand Singer is the father of my friend of over
20 years, Ann Hill. Whenever Annie gave me an
update
on her parents' whereabouts, I responded with a
dropped jaw. People in their 70's and 80's, as far
as I knew, did not climb mountains, drive cross
country or travel to the South Pole. Her father did.
Now that he is in his 90's and still continues to
circle the globe, I decided it was time
to tell
people about him.
It's also been my intention to bring attention to
the thriving seniors on our planet through the
Where's Armand blog and I received this post from
reader John Hall:
"While I am certainly impressed with Armand I
would like to share my Monday's experience with
you. I went to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle
Department with my friend Betty to renew her driver's
license. Betty is 102 years old, lives alone in
her Atlantic city condo. She gets along quite
well, is active in charity work and yes, she
sometimes drives to get her hair done and an
occasional lunch out. She is a remarkable lady who
seems more like 75 than 102. Oh, by the way the
renewal was successful. "
Thank you Luci, John and Armand!
