Not one to make excuses, she analyzes any obstacle she faces and comes up with ways to do whatever she wants to do.-from the article "Standing Out in the Crowd", by Rick Bowers.
Jessica Cox, pictured above, was born without arms but obviously has learned to use all available resources. She drives a car, holds a black belt degree in Tae Kwon Do, puts in a contact lens, sends text messages and flies airplanes - solo...everything and more than the well-armed.
I first read about Jessica on CNN's Young People Who Rock, a weekly interview program focused on remarkable people under the age of 30, when I followed an article about J.R. Martinez. J.R., a badly burned Iraq veteran decided to turn his injuries into a blessing and became the spokesperson for the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes. While doing that, he also began starring in a day-time soap opera, All My Children.
If you're getting weary of all the gloomy forecasts and broadcasts, I highly suggest you start searching for what's good in the world. To watch Jessica in action, is the best testimony to her spirit. There are three short videos available here on her website: http://www.rightfooted.com/see/
The second video ends with Jessica saying, "Today I became the first woman without arms to fly a plane, what will you accomplish tomorrow?"
She's got me scrambling for an answer. What about you?
