When I was about 2 years old, we lived in Honolulu and my mom tells me that whenever the kids from across the street would come over to play, I'd take away every toy that they picked up with an authoritative, "That's mine!" "No, you can't play with that, that's mine!"
As they eventually filed down the steps to go home, I'd turn to my mom and ask, "Why don't they want to play with me?"
When this drawing showed up on my screen I wanted to pick up the little girl and give her a big hug! She lives inside me and I love her dearly. We are fiercely protective of each other and it's because of her that I am living a happy life. She will never give up on me.
She still won't let anyone take away her toys, but I've taught her to share. She's obstinate and stubborn and has stood in front of me in times of adversity. She's the one who deals with pain and I drag her to states of joy.
We coexist quite well these days. I give her room to move, she doesn't embarrass me in public. I may still run with scissors, but I now play well with others.
