He's Landed Safely

P8140056e

Armand Singer officially passed this life at 2:15am EST today, July 12. As soon as I learn of any memorial services, I will post them here.

In the meantime, I'm going to blow out the candles and turn up the music. Armand went out listening to his favorite jazz tunes on an iPod..."with it" until the end.

Aloha my friend!

Mailbreak

While we were all paying attention to Krista's delivery last weekend, Armand was driving himself to the emergency room in Morgantown. His sleuth of a daughter, Annie, tracked him down when she was unable to reach him by phone.

I spoke to Armand on Wednesday as he lay in his hospital bed. His three hour surgery was performed on Friday and according to Annie, he's getting better every day. He'll be out of ICU by tomorrow but will be in the hospital for another 10 days, at least.

Chocolates (Armand's not-so-secret-desire) and flowers are not the thing to send at this time but I'm certain that he would just be elated to hear from you. A quick note or a 'get well' card would be wonderful. Just be mindful that it will hurt him to laugh! If you're up for it, compose a limerick for the Master of Limericks.

How about that? Another contest! Armand will be the judge this time. The winner will receive a Where's Armand t-shirt of choice and a box of Kona chocolates that I would have bought for Armand, if he were recovering from anything other than a digestive disorder.

Send all your cards, letters and limericks to:

He's off to Europe!

Armandt On the eve of his 2006 flight to Europe, Armand Singer recalled his very first trip to Europe:

"My first trip was in May of 1921 when I was about 6 years old. My father wanted to feel the pitching and rolling of the waves so we took a slow boat. I was so sick that I truly wished I would die and I'm sure I voiced it."

Somewhere en route, the ocean calmed down, long enough for young Armand to go missing. Now we know that "Where's Armand?" has been echoing on this planet for many years!

When his frantic parents and the ship's crew members found him, Armand's head was sticking out of an ocean level porthole. Of course, they all thought that he was trying to put an end to his ocean-voyage-misery, but Armand was on a mission!

"I met a young English actress and she did not believe I was brave enough to stick my head out of the porthole. So I had to unscrew the flaps and show her. No one believed that I was not trying to jump out."

Packed for yet another adventure eighty-five years later, Armand leaves his home in Morgantown, West Virginia today for Florence, Italy. I'll keep track of his journey on our blog, as long as I am able to keep up the pace. Wish me luck!

He's gearing up!

Just as I had imagined, last week's article on Armand Singer brought inspiration and joy to many readers.

"I want to be just like him," was the overwhelming comment I received.

This week, Armand is at home in Morgantown, West Virginia, refueling for his trip to Italy come July 18. I'll see if I'm able to catch up with him sometime this week to see how he's doing.
